The National Acrobatic Gymnastics Finals took place from 31 May - 1 June. Three Oxford partnerships had qualified to compete in this prestigious event by winning the regional heats back in March. As such, they were up against the best in their class from across the UK. The Competition got off to a great start with Silver medals for our Grade 4 Trio of Elspeth, Aysha and Charlotte, who in their first major competition together, conquered the inevitable nerves and were only just beaten into second place by 9/100ths of a point! Their success was mirrored shortly afterwards by Ashley and Lucy, who also won the Silver medal having given a classy performance in the Grade 4 Womens Pairs. On Sunday the success continued when Laura and Fi' competed in the Grade 6 (the highest grade) Womens Pairs. Grade 6 requires 2 routines to be performed with the aggregate score determining the final placings. Despite Laura rolling her ankle badly during the warm-up and Fi having Tonsilitus, the girls produced a great Balance Routine and finished the morning in 2nd place. A strong Dynamic Routine was needed to consolidate their position and the girls appeared to do just that. Surprisingly, the marks awarded were lower than everyone expected and the girls were just beaten to the Silver, but retained their place on the Winners Rostrum by winning a richly deserved Bronze medal. Three partnerships competed - three partnerships came home with medals, a fantastic achievement against the best in Britain. Congratulations to everyone - it was an exceptional weekend of competition and you did yourselves proud!
