British Championships 21-22 March 2009

In 2009, BG announced that the top 4 partnerships in each category at the British Championships would also be invited to compete for GB in a European event later in the year. The stakes were therefore particularly high and a top 4 finish was the goal of all the Oxford gymnasts. Becky & Megan in their first ‘British’ together made a great start and had high hopes of making the top 4. But hope turned to heartbreak when they dropped a move in their Dynamic Routine and agonizingly finished in 5th place; their time would come, but it was not to be in 2009. A similar fate befell the Junior Trio of Steph, Laura and Hannah who dropped in their Balance Routine and missed out on a place in the final. Cath Rosie and Emily incurred a dubious 0.3 penalty in their dynamic routine, but focussed their frustrations well to produce a stunning Balance Routine, a Bronze Medal and a place in the GB Team. In Bulgaria later in the year, they would go on to win 2 Golds and a Silver for GB! The Junior Mixed Pair of Chris and Beth also had a rocky ride in the qualifying rounds, but fought their way through to the Combined Routine Final, where they took the Bronze medal and the coveted Team GB place. They also competed in Bulgaria later that year and came home with a further Bronze medal.

NDP Regional Prelims Feb 28th 2009: 4 Gold, Silver and Bronze.
Yet another fantastic weekend of competition. Xenia and Catherine in their first ever competition finished in 5th place after performing in the Prep A competition. Cossi and Sophie scored the second highest score of the competition to win the Gold medal in the Prep B women's pairs. James and Abi won Gold in the Grade 1 mixed pairs, finishing a whole mark ahead of the rest of the competition. Vicky, Laura and Beth in their first competition together won the Grade 1 Silver medal after performing a fantastic routine. Jess (in her first competition) and Emma had a difficult job being the first performers of the day; they finished in 6th place in the Grade 1 category. Laura and Aysha in their last competition together finished in 4th place in the Grade 2 women's pairs section. At Grade 3, Gabby, Fran and Emerald, and Becca and Freya both won Gold medals; the latter pair also scored the highest mark of the whole competition. James, Abi, Gabrielle, Fran, Emerald, Rebecca and Freya will all represent the Region at the NDP National Finals in May.
