Trio bid Farewell at British Championships

Our 12-18 Womens Group of Elspeth, Aysha and Samara performed their last routines together at the British Championships, which marked the retirement from the sport of of two of the Trio, Aysha and Samara.

Held at the prestigious Echo Arena, the occasion was all the more poignant as not only was it their final performance together, it was also the first and only time that Aysha and Samara had competed at a British Championships.

The girls would be the first to acknowledge that their build-up to the event had been difficult and with the added pressure of of knowing that this was their final competition, emotions were inevitably running high. Aiming for clean routines and to qualify for the finals, the girls were very disapointed with their first routine, dropping their first balance, which prevented them completing the second and ending the day in 7th place as a consequence. Knowing that they had a mountain to climb on the second day if they were to compete in the Final, the girls arrived with a great attitude and despite last minute nerves, performed a strong, clean Dynamic routine with particularly good marks for artistry. Competing early in the round, the agony of waiting to see if they had made to the finals was palpable. Sadly, their was to be no fairy-tale ending as despite finishing 5th in the Dynamic round, their overall score was not enough to lift them into 6th spot and a place in the Final.

Despite their disapointment, to end their gymnastics careers competing at the British Championships in a world class venue, is without doubt, a fitting finale! Good luck Aysha and Samara! You can look back with great pride at your achievements over the years - its been a fantastic journey for you both and we will all miss you!
