New partnerships excel winning 4 Gold and 2 Silver at Southern Region National Prelims!

The unseasonable snow ensured that this years competiton would be fixed in the memory as the event that almost never was! Decision points came and went, the start was delayed to allow competitors to travel later in the morning and finally, it was confirmed that the competiton would be run in the afternoon, but without the regional and FIG categories.

Every competing partnership was a new one and for some gymnasts, this was their first ever competition! Charlie and Olivia (in her first competition) were up first and gave a lovely perfomance which earned them the Silver medal in the Grade 3 womens pairs. Toby and Freya (also in her first competition) performed a fantastc routine earning them the highest score of the competition and with it, the Gold medal. Ilka, Ruby and Bea produced a fine Silver medal winning routine under really difficult circumstances as Bea had been ill for the week before and was very much still suffering the after-effects; it was a really determined effort by the whole Trio. Bella and Maddie were determined to secure their place at the National Finals, but had to endure a false start when the wrong music was played. Keeping their cool, they went on to achieve their goal, producing the gold medal winning routine and with it, a trip to the Nationals. Louisa and Annie were competing as a pair while their partner Heidi recovers from a knee injury. They had a nervous start to their Balance routine and were clearly disapointed with their performance. However, they bounced back to produce a strong Dynamic routine, showing comendable resillience and their true qualities. They too, secured a place to the National finals.
Last but not least, Emily and Ella, who's regional competition had been cancelled as a result of the delay to the competition had their chance a week later when the event was rescheduled. Despite both of them having missed their training sessions during the week due to lillness, they performed a lovely routine that won them the Gold medal - definitely worth the wait!
