Saltney Classic: 6-7 June 2009

5 Gold, 2 Silver, a Bronze - and the Team Trophy.

This two day invitational event, held in North Wales offers the opportunity for both individual and team competition at NDP and FIG level. On the Saturday, the NDP team performed really well with Vicky, Laura and Emma claiming the Gold medal in their first competition together. Gabby, Fran and Emerald and Rebecca and Freya also won Gold to top off a very successful year for both partnerships. Cossi and Sophie won Silver and James and Abi won Bronze. Phoebe, Xenia and Nina in their first competition together were a little overawed by the occasion and were unable to achieve the level of performance that they are capable of – but we know that their time will come.
The FIG team performed their routines over both days giving some great performances. Becky and Megan and Chris and Beth won Gold in the 11-16 Women's Pairs and the Junior Mixed Pairs respectively. Steph, Laura and Hannah finished with the Silver medal in their last competition together as a Women's Group. It was a poignant occasion for everyone as it marked the retirement of one of Oxfords original – and most popular – gymnasts, Laura Woodley.
