Outstanding results at the National Prelims!
9 Gold medals, 2 Silver and a Bronze, with 7 partnerships going through to the National Finals ensured that the 2017 National Prelims would be a competition to remember, surpassing the 2016 results, which had been the best ever, by a comfortable margin.
Everyone was on great form and produced some of their best performances when it really mattered - with some nail-biting finishes notably for Lucy and Ellie and Ilka and Maddie. Matilda, Annie and Esmee showed just how far they have come, earning a fantastic score of 28.09. Catriona, Jas and Molly took another Gold, but couldnt go forward to the National Finals as they are currently out of age. This honour went to their team mates Bella, Ruby and Lucy who finished in second. They will, however, represent the region at the tough Inter-Regional Competition in April. Bella's Trio did particularly well to secure their Silver as they had previously only competed in the Regional competition. Heidi and Annie also had a tough contest and thoroughly deserved their Gold medal, particularly as Heidi was recovering from an injury. Louisa, Xenia and Hannah produced their best balance routine and continue to progress while Sophie, Kirsten and Lara, who have really grown in confidence produced excellent routines of real class. Last but not least, Elspeth, Georgia and Esmee who are still working up to full capacity produced two solid routines with strong artistry to take their Gold.
Running alongside the Southern Region heats was The regional competition for gymnasts who train up to 6 hours a week. 4 partnerships, including 2 that competed for the first time; Emily, Soph' and Ella at Grade 2 - and Issy and Ellie at Grade 3. The Oxford girls swept the board, with Emilys Trio taking Gold in their category and our 3 womens pairs taking all 3 medals in a closely fought contest, the quality of which showed just what can be achieved at this level with hard work, commitment and a competitive spirit.
Huge congratulations to everyone in the Oxford Team, you absolutely excelled - and grateful thanks to our amazing supporters!
