National NDP Finals. 9-10 May 2009

Gold Silver and Bronze For Oxford.
3 partnerships qualified to represent the South at this year’s NDP National finals; Becca and Freya; and Gabby, Fran and Emerald at Grade 3, with James and Abi at Grade 1. Becca and Freya were first with their Balance routine, which was performed with style and accuracy. They went straight into the lead and stayed there – no pressure! Knowing that one slip would put them out of the gold medal position, a very nervous pair marched out to do their dynamic routine, but performed brilliantly to take the National title and the Gold medal!

Gabby, Fran and Emerald performed their best ever dynamic routine which should have put them into first place, but a dispute over a tariff issue, saw their score subsequently reduced by a crippling 1.3, which dropped them into 5th. This could have been a crushing blow to the girls, but picking themselves up after the shock and disappointment, they set themselves the challenge of getting back into the medals – a massive task. However, looked stunning in their red and gold leotards and with an air of great confidence, they performed an outstanding Balance routine, which elevated them 3 places and won them the Silver medal – a brilliant achievement and a credit to their nerve and determination.

With a lot of self-induced pressure on their shoulders as everyone from Oxford had medalled the day before, James and Abi took to the floor on the Sunday. This was their first major competition and the nerves were showing in the waiting area, but they contained them well to perform strongly with lots of expression, which earned them an excellent score and the Bronze medal, completing an Oxford 1, 2, 3!
