On 14 July, the Club held its Annual Awards Evening to celebrate the achievements of our gymnasts over the past year. A Buffet Supper was followed by the presentation of the awards, which covered a range of categories including Progress Awards for each squad, the Gymnasts Gymnast (awarded by the gymnasts to one of their own), the Special Recognition Award and finally the Base, Top and Gymnast of the Year. There was also a surprise presentation to the Club from Simon and Lynn Richards, who handed over a cheque for £500 following their epic 13 day trek along the Grand Union Canal to raise money for the Club - thank you so much! Entertainment was provided by the gymnasts themselves who gave short presentations, talks and poems about an aspect of their gymnastics experiences. These interludes were a real highlight of the night, proving to be amusing, thought provoking, uplifting and emotional, drawing loud applause from the appreciative audience. The evening culminated in the presentation of the Gymnast of the Year Trophy, which was awarded to Sophie Newell for her great dedication, determination and amazing progress over the last 12 months. Well done Sophie!
